As was confirmed by reports shared by domestic media on Monday, Chinese officials have shut down what they said was the largest ever hacker training website in the country. Also, three of its members have been placed under arrest.
Known as the "Black Hawk Safety Net", the website offered training on hacking techniques and also provided malicious software downloads to its member base of 12,000 in exchange for a fee, as has been shared by the police officials in Huanggang, east of Wuhan.
Ever since Google Inc. threatened to roll its operations back from China, hacking in the country has been the focus of immense international attention. Last month, a hacker attack on Google's mail accounts, which originated from China, resulted in the theft of its intellectual property.
China, however, has blatantly denied any involvement in the attack, and has stressed that the country does not condone hacking. But the incident has managed to alert the authorities who are now taking strict measures to control such acts.
