Viagra Not Responsible for Irresponsible Sexual Behaviour

A new study by University of Florida claims that drugs like Viagra for erectile dysfunction don't make men more likely to engage in potentially unhealthy sex annulling the conventional study that erectile dysfunction drugs promote irresponsible sexual behaviour.

The study defines that risky sexual behaviour as having unprotected sex with a partner who has a different or unknown HIV status.

The researchers analyzed the data from 2,787 men, average age 52 among which 53 percent were HIV-infected and the other 47 percent did not have HIV infection.

Dr. Robert Cook, an associate professor at the University of Florida and lead researcher of the new study, revealed that the study is unique as it didn't emphasize on men who received the medication without a prescription, had sex with men or had substance abuse problems.

The study findings cited that 28 percent of the men used erectile-dysfunction drugs over a one-year period while about 10 percent of the men in two groups i. e. those who did use the drugs and those who didn't, reported sexually risky behaviour.
