The global meltdown has made more overseas Singaporeans get lured in by the vast opportunities to return back home. Contact Singapore, a government- run network which works to attract global talent here, has witnessed more overseas Singaporeans making inquiries about jobs back home.
“The global downturn has further accentuated the attractiveness of Asia. We should capitalize on this to make Singapore an even more attractive Home for Talent - both local and global”, cited Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong on Tuesday.
The recession has tripled the number of students studying overseas to contact the career sessions in 2010 compared to that in 2009.
In addition, Singapore is becoming a business hub, attracting many foreign talents as well. Currently, the data reveals that there are about 100,000 foreign professionals working in Singapore, a
25 per cent increase over the number in 1999.
The government seems to be fully supportive in this respect. The centre plans to reduce the waiting time required for the employment application process.
