The London governing body is all set to introduce more than 200 data sets on the web which would provide a range of online information on a large number of topics including government's decisions, crime rate figures, house prices, road accidents and many more. The move to set up data warehouse follows recent decision of the central government in which it has decided to start releasing some official datasets to programmers.
The Greater London Authority, the official manager of online London Data store, has said that the data ware house would become operational from 29 January. Expressing the need of such system for greater transparency and accountability, London Mayor Boris Johnson hoped that it would turn GLA more responsible besides serving the needs of web developers and programmers.
Mr. Johnson added, "Data belongs to the people, particularly that held by the public sector, and getting hold of it should not involve a complex routine of jumping through a series of ever decreasing hoops."
Data would be initially available at data. gov. uk site and become fully operational and live in April 2010.
