The extreme ultra-Orthodox Jewish men in Israel have a latest prescription and it is glasses that can blur their vision to make them avoid women who are not dressed up modestly.
This is being done to maintain their strictly devout lifestyle and for doing this, the ultra-Orthodox men have separated the sexes on buses, footpaths and other public spaces in their neighbourhoods. According to the Jewish law, as they interpret, men and women who are not married should not contact each other.
It has been seen that there are signs on the walls in their neighbourhoods that feature instructions for women to wear closed-necked, long-sleeved blouses and long skirts. Women who have not followed the code have been accosted by the extremists.
And if this was not enough, attempts are now being made to keep these women completely out of clear sight.
Glasses that are fixed with a special blur-inducing stickers on their lenses are being sold by the ultra-Orthodox community's unofficial ‘modesty patrols’.
A clear vision is provided by these glasses so that movement remains unaffected but beyond that it gets blurry. It's not known how many have been sold.
