Google updates its search app for iDevices

Google updates its search app for iDevicesGoogle is all set to bring its own Siri-like voice search feature to the iPhone and iPad via an update to its free Google Search app, which is expected to be rolled out before the end of this week.

The new version of Google's search app for the iPhone and iPad will allow users to find information about everything ranging from weather to nearby movie show by speaking into the devices.

The new feature matches some of the capabilities of Apple's Siri. It uses speech-recognition technology to understand spoken, natural language search requests.

The Internet search and information giant also announced a new version of its web search that integrates its popular Gmail service to provide users with personalize results for their everyday searches.

Amit Singhal, senior vice president of engineering at Google, said that the new search app for the iDevices would enable users to have access to all the information that humanity has put on the Web.

Speaking on the topic, Singhal added, "There should be nothing standing between your thoughts and the knowledge you seek."

The updates are part of Google's efforts to make searches faster and more relevant, and maintain its dominance in the field.
