Apple admits 132-page Samsung document into evidence in patent trial

Apple admits 132-page Samsung document into evidence in patent trial In the latest development in the ongoing high-profile patent trial, Apple admitted a 132-page Samsung document into evidence on late Tuesday. The document essentially shows a comparison between the Samsung Galaxy S1 handset and the Apple iPhone.

Apple has admitted into evidence in the trial to give the jury as well as other observers a comprehensive disclosure about Samsung's thinking at the time when, according to Apple's claims, the South Korean tech company decided to "slavishly" copy the design of the iPhone.

During the course of the court proceedings on Tuesday, Apple's lawyers largely focused on aspects like the breakdown of the home screen icons, in which Samsung engineers pointed out to things on the Galaxy handset such as the difference between the text messaging and email icons, along with the need to change them to reduce the confusion.

However, as per the Apple lawyers, when the Galaxy handset hit the store shelves, the text messaging application on the device featured a new icon - a speech bubble, which was quite akin to the one that Apple had used for the iPhone.

In addition, with the Samsung document also including some wide-ranging suggestions, like changing the icons to look more three-dimensional like the iPhone, Susan Kare - a graphics expert and an ex-Apple employee - testified to the court, in her opinion, it was quite evident that the `look' and `feel' of the Samsung Galaxy phone hand been designed with Apple's devices in mind.
