Nighttime coughing can be reduced with honey in young kids

Nighttime coughing can be reduced with honey in young kidsResearchers have stated that nagging coughs can be put to rest in young children with honey and can help them sleep better.

Kids who are less six years old should not be given over-the-counter cough and cold medicines as evidence does not state that they are good, it was stated by experts and other than this there are also risks of overdoses and side effects.

It has been recommended by many grandparents that honey given at bedtime can relieve coughing and now this new study also backs up the same.

There was a trial conducted in which about 270 kids from Israel were taken and their age was one to five years old. All these kids had cough at nighttime and this was because of common cold.

Parents of all these kids were asked to administer honey to their children about 30 minutes before going to bed or a placebo liquid of similar taste and consistency.

Eucalyptus honey, citrus honey or libiatae honey were the three kinds of honey used. The placebo syrup was made with silan date extract.

It was seen that children who were given honey fared much better than children who were given a placebo. They were able to sleep better and coughing severity was also reduced.
