In the wake of Microsoft's plan to foray into the tablet arena with its `Surface' tablet, Taiwan-based computer manufacturer, Acer, has requested the software giant to `think twice' about its planned tablet-market venture.
According to a recent Financial Times report, Acer's Chairman and CEO JT Wang is of the opinion that Microsoft's intentions of coming up with its own branded `Surface' tablet - most likely to be launched in October - will apparently have a "negative" effect on the global computing ecosystem.
Even though Microsoft is seemingly planning to launch its `Surface' tablet to take on the Apple iPad and the numerous Android-based tablets currently available on the market, the Microsoft tablet will also offer direct competition to the tablet manufactured by Microsoft's own partners, including Acer and its `Iconia' tablet.
Criticizing Microsoft's tablet ambitions, which Acer has already done in the past too, Wang also suggested that in case Microsoft decides to move ahead with its tablet plans, Acer would probably have to think of replacing the bigwig software company as its partner.
As per the Financial Times' report, Wang said that Acer has urged Microsoft to reconsider its plans for the `Surface' tablet because hardware is not the company's forte. The paper further quoted Wang as saying: "If Microsoft is going to do hardware business, what should we do? Should we still rely on Microsoft, or should we find other alternatives?"
