Apple launching Mountain Lion OS for Mac computers

Apple launching Mountain Lion OS for Mac computers In a recent announcement pertaining to the launch of Mountain Lion, or OS X 10.8, by Apple, the company revealed that the new OS for Mac computers will be available on the Mac App Store from today, July 25.

Announcing the availability of Mountain Lion during an earnings call for reporting its third-quarter results, Apple said that the new software will essentially make the working of Mac PCs fairly akin to that of the iPhone and the iPad, thanks largely to the fact that it narrows the gap between the software packages for the PC and the phone.

The Mountain Lion OS will boast some notable features borrowed from mobile devices, as well as a tighter integration with online file storage. In addition, in a highly incremental move, Apple has also increased the usefulness of the OS' new iPad-like Full Screen mode; thus giving the users the advantage of picking the connected display that they wish to view.

According to Apple, mountain Lion will boast the addition of as many as 200 new features, out of which quite a few - like Reminders, Notes and even the Notification Center - will be iOS-inspired features coming to the company's Mac computers.

Furthermore, Mountain Lion - priced at $19.99; and available only for download - will also bring aboard a new security feature, called `Gatekeeper', which is aimed at reducing malware by blocking the installation of uncertified apps.
