According to a study, the risk of developing stomach cancer can be decreased by cutting down on salty foods such as bread and breakfast cereals.
Experts state that too much salt is already present in foods so eating too much salt is not only through putting salt over fish and chips or taking it in Sunday lunch.
According to WCRF, a UK charity, the content of salt in food should be labeled more clearly. WCRF gives advice on how cancer can be kept away by taking a proper diet, maintaining a proper weight through physical exercise and taking less salt content.
Cancer can be caused by excess salt along with various problems like blood pressure, stroke and heart problems.
World Cancer Research Fund said that about a level teaspoon full was the recommended daily intake but people were eating beyond that.
Sodium is often listed in food labels rather than salt whereas it should be noted that sodium is a component of salt only. To work out how much salt a food contains, multiply the sodium content by 2.5.
For bringing down stomach cancers, there has to be better labeling of food products.
