Ford is recalling nearly 8,500 redesigned 2013 Escape SUVs in the UWith a mis-positioned carpet padding affecting the braking mechanism of the all-new Ford Escape, Ford Motor has issued a recall of almost 8,500 redesigned 2013 Escape SUVs in the US.

According to the Escape recall-related details shared by US Ford spokeswoman Marcey Zwiebel, the recall covered as many as 8,266 vehicles have been recalled in the country; with the carpet-padding issue also reportedly affecting nearly 200 vehicles in Mexico, and almost 2,000 vehicles in Canada.

Despite the fact that there have been no reports of the wrongly-positioned carpet padding of the recalled Escape models leading to any accidents, the automaker said that the recall was chiefly a result of the fact that the padding left less space around the pedals; thus causing the drivers of the affected SUVs to hit the side of the brake pedal when they switched their foot from the accelerator.

Revealing that the carpet-padding problem in the recalled Escape models was discovered "through internal evaluations," Zwiebel said that the vehicles were manufactured between March 8 and June 7 at the Ford assembly plant in Louisville, Ky. The spokeswoman also said that the recall will likely begin from July 23.

Moreover, in its information linked to the recall of Escape models, Ford told the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that dealers will remove the carpet padding from the affected vehicles, and will make a free-of-charge replacement of a console trim panel.
