Cumberland County DEP to carry out mosquito spraying on Monday

Cumberland County DEP to carry out mosquito spraying on MondayAs a part of its efforts to control adult mosquito populations, Cumberland County’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will apply treatments on Monday.

The DEP confirmed that residential as well as recreational areas of Lemoyne, New Cumberland boroughs, plus Upper and Lower Allen townships will receive mosquito spraying.

Spraying will be administered by truck-mounted equipment, which will dole out Biomist3+15 at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. The DEP claimed that Biomist3+15 will provide immediate, effectual control of adult mosquito populations, but jeopardizing the health of mammals and environment.

Health officials have detected certain mosquito species in the region that carried the West Nile virus, which can spread to humans through bites and lead to inflammation of the brain.

Speaking on the topic, Epidemiologist Dr. Paul Byers said, “We are now entering our peak West Nile Virus season, and we typically see more human cases in July, August and September, than in other months.”

In the event of rain, DEP officials will reschedule mosquito spraying and inform the residents through a later release.
