Risk of female obesity less in breast feeding women

Risk of female obesity less in breast feeding womenA study was conducted in about 740,000 post-menopausal women in Britain and it was seen that obesity can be avoided with breastfeeding.

It was seen that even decades after breastfeeding, the body mass index was 0.22 or 1 per cent for every six months women breastfed.

Across all socioeconomic groups this observation was made and the number of children these women had was not a cause of concern in this.

It was seen that women who breastfed had lower body-fat measure but it was observed that mothers who gave birth to more children had higher BMI.

It has also been noticed that the risk of childhood obesity is lesser among children who are breastfed. The World Health Organization states that across the globe about 1.4 billion people are obese.

It should be noted that the reason of lower BMI after delivering a child could not be figured out but it was seen that women who breastfed were set on a healthy note for the rest of their life.

Valerie Beral, co-author of the study, said, "It seems to be a very simple way of having a persistent slight reduction."
