Samsung rumored to be developing Windows RT tablet

Samsung rumored to be developing Windows RT tabletAccording to a new Bloomberg report, Samsung is apparently planning to build an ARM-based Windows RT tablet, which will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and will likely hit the markets in October when Windows RT is officially launched.

With the Bloomberg report revealing that Samsung has plans underway for developing a Windows RT-based tablet, the South Korean company is the latest addition to the list of device-manufacturers – including Asus, Acer, Toshiba, Dell, and Microsoft itself – planning a tablet which runs on Microsoft’s forthcoming software platform..

The Bloomberg disclosure that the Samsung Windows RT tablet will use a Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor is somewhat surprising, especially in the wake of the fact that the company has its own Exynos ARM processor; and it also builds the processors which Apple uses in its iPhone and iPad!

Apparently, Samsung’s decision to go with a Qualcomm processor is based on the fact that a working Windows RT device – though with some minor bugs - was demonstrated by Qualcomm during the Computex event in June.

Moreover, Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs had also said – during a last-month interview with Forbes - that a forthcoming Windows RT device this year will feature a Qualcomm processor. However, refraining from disclosing the name of the company, Jacobs had said: “We can’t say who they are yet. I think you’ll like the products when they come out.”
