The recently-unveiled Xperia Ion is Sony first handset to hit the US markets to bear the Sony brand-name after the company parted ways with Ericson; and is also the first Sony handset to boast 4G LTE capability.
Putting the spotlight on its new handsomely-styled Xperia Ion smartphone, after its unveiling in the US, Sony has been chiefly highlighting the entertainment experiences - like playing video games and watching movies - which the device will supposedly bring along for its users.
With Sony also being an entertainment company, along with being a smartphone maker, the company's ad campaign for the affordable, $100-priced Android-based Xperia Ion draws attention to Sony-owned content such as the coming Spider-Man film, music by the group Matt and Kim, and PlayStation video games.
Sony's Xperia Ion TV commercial - scheduled to feature on cable stations like TNT, USA and TBS, on Monday - largely stresses on giving the users the ability to experience content on the go.
With the Xperia Ion being the first US handset from Sony Mobile Communications ever since its split from the Ericsson brand, Peter Farmer - the VP for marketing for Sony Mobile in North America - said that more than just being the launch of a new device, the handset's unveiling marks the company's efforts in the direction of "establishing credibility and visibility for Sony in the smartphone space."
