Apple's new MacBook Pro with Retina Display can power 3 external monitors

Apple's new MacBook Pro with Retina Display can power 3 external monitorsOn the basis of the results of an experiment involving Apple’s new flagship professional-level laptop – the Retina Display-equipped 15-inch MacBook Pro -, Other World Computing (OWC) has recently revealed that the device, boasting two Thunderbolt ports and an integrated HDMI port, can power three external monitors for an astounding total of four screens.

Detailing the experiment, OWC said in a recent blog post that the 15-inch MacBook Pro was hooked up to two to two iMacs in display mode with the help of Thunderbolt and an LG monitor via HDMI. The own display settings of the system was set to "Best for Retina.”

The blog post further said that the MacBook Pro apparently did not have any performance issues even when all the four displays were active. As per OWC’s assertion, neither was there any lag in moving images and media, nor was there any problem in simultaneous playing of videos on all the four displays.

The OWC’s observation that the four-screen setup had the MacBook Pro powering a staggering 14.86 million pixels, counting the full resolution of the laptops own display, is a truly remarkable revelation --- more so as Apple's own technical specifications for the laptop mention support for only two external displays at 2,560 by 1,600 pixels, over and above the on-board display.

The results of the OWC experiment further adds to the impressive list of the MacBook Pro’s much-raved-about features like its thinner form factor, its use of Intel's new Ivy Bridge chips, and USB 3.0 and SSD storage.
