Researchers have stated that no developmental problems in five-years-olds were seen due to drinking a low or moderate level of alcohol in early pregnancy.
No harm was seen due to one to eight drinks a week during early pregnancy.
In UK the standard drink has about 7.9g of alcohol and in Denmark a standard drink has 12g of alcohol.
It is advisable that pregnant women should not drink at all but experts have now stated that it is ok to have no more than one-to-two units, once or twice a week.
There can be a miscarriage if a pregnant woman indulges in heavy drinking along with foetal alcohol syndrome and low birth weight.
Five papers were produced by Danish researchers on drinking in pregnancy.
For these papers about 1,600 pregnant women participated and they were recruited at their first antenatal visit. About 50 per cent of these women were becoming mothers for the first time and just under a third smoked during pregnancy.
All these women were questioned about how much alcohol they consumed.
Along with women who had drinks, pregnant women who did not drink during pregnancy were included in the research.
It was seen that there was no effect on neurodevelopment in women who were moderate weekly drinkers in early pregnancy.
