According to a recent blog post by crowd-funding website Kickstarter, the stupendous success of Double Fine Adventure has not only spilled over to other similar projects, but has also given a new lease of life to crowd-funding gaming.
Noting that it was a $3.3-million assurance by almost 90,000 supporters that helped make the new adventure game by Double Fine a reality, Kickstarter said that over 60,000 supporters of the project were first-time backers to the site. In addition, the post also revealed that almost 25 percent of the Double Fine Adventure backers have gone on to support other projects ever since the game’s release.
As per the Kickstarter post, the extraordinary success of Double Fine Adventure led to an astounding increase in pledges --- while the month leading up to the launch of the game witnessed an average of 629 pledges a week in the Video Games category on the website, the number has now skyrocketed to a whopping 9,755 pledges a week, excluding additional pledges for Double Fine Adventure.
Further adding that, during the month and a half of the Double fine success, Video Game category has netted $2.9 million, Kickstarter also revealed that among the other notable projects following Double Fine are Wasteland 2 and indie-RPG The Banner Saga.
Acknowledging that backing across categories has increased owing to “blockbuster” funding projects similar to Double Fine, Kickstarter said in the blog post: “These projects illustrate how the Kickstarter ecosystem is strengthened with each new project and backer,”
