Binge drinking done by 13-year-olds alsoAccording to a research, by the age of 13 years, in Scotland about a third of teenagers are binge drinking.

The study has found that by early teens, excess drinking is done by about 35 per cent of school pupils.

A survey was carried out in about six European nations and it was found that binge drinking is not limited to adults only and it meant that taking about five or more drinks on one single occasion. The six countries where the survey was done are Germany, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Scotland.

The maximum number of children doing binge drinking was seen in Netherland and youngsters in Scotland came out second in terms of alcohol consumption.

Thirteen was the mean age of the 2,937 people questioned in Scotland. About 35 per cent of people, according to researchers, indulged in binge drinking by this age. In Iceland the percentage of 13 years olds doing binge drinking was six per cent.

Experts said, "Icelandic youth had the lowest rates of binge drinking, whereas youths in The Netherlands, Scotland and Germany had the highest. Factors that were associated with binge drinking included peer drinking, sensation seeking and rebelliousness, school performance, age and sibling drinking."
