School nurses to be more accessible to pupils

School nurses to be more accessible to pupilsAccording to the government, there should be better access for pupils in England to their school nurses and in order to make an appointment, they should be able to text them.

There is a plan that is aimed at making health in schools better and the plan states that an attempt should be made by nurses to understand pupil's complex emotional and learning needs.

While making the plan about 300 young people were talked to by ministers.

School nurses are represented by the Royal College of Nursing and it stated that to make things better, more nurses were needed.

A significant role is played by school nurses when it comes to looking after young people's and children's health at schools.

Due to a lack of know hows among pupils, it is not easy for them to see school nurses and they feel hesitant to ask the teacher to make an appointment for them with the school nurse.

Present technology like emails, phone apps and text messaging can make things easy if put to use.

Sharon White, professional officer at the School and Public Health Nurses Association, said, "School nurses have a special role as they are the only health professionals that work with five to 19-year-olds."
