NHS managers defend teenagers getting contraceptive implants

NHS managers defend teenagers getting contraceptive implantsFor avoiding teenage pregnancies, girls as young as 13 years old are being given a contraceptive implant and that too without their parents having any clue about it.

This has however been defended by NHS managers as they feel that this step will keep teenage pregnancies away.

One parent, who found out about her 13-year-old daughter being given a contraceptive implant, severely criticized the initiative in Southampton.

She stated that this step was morally wrong and doing this with girls without their parents knowing about it is not right. Girls are given a 4cm device by nurses that is put in their arm.

She said, “I feel really angry about this. I agree that teaching teenagers about sexual health and contraception is very important but this is a step too far. I have spoken to a lot of parents at the school and they were horrified to find out this was happening.”

On the condition of anonymity, the mother, stated that the device had its effect on her daughter as she suffered from mood swings and did not talk to her friends.
