According to a new report released on Friday by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, research has shown that most of the users of the Internet - including the majority of young adults - apparently browse the web for no specific reason!
Going by the statistics shared in the report, a phone survey of 2,260 US adults - conducted from July 25 to August 26 - has revealed that on any given day, 53 percent of the people aged between 18 and 29 years, seemingly go online "just for fun and to pass the time."
According to the report, the question which the survey respondents were asked was: "Did you go online yesterday for no particular reason, just for fun or to pass the time?" However, the term "fun" was not defined, and so the respondents could interpret it broadly to include gossip blogs as well as serious research.
Highlighting that the amount of time that people spend browsing the Web without any specific reason corresponds with age, the report said that about 12 percent of above-65 people and nearly 27 percent of the 50-64 year-olds admitted that they went online the previous day for no particular reason.
The terms of overall figures, the report underscored that as many as 58 percent of all adults acknowledged the fact that they, at least occasionally, browse the Web merely to pass time or have fun. Of all the adults who use the Internet, approximately 75 percent surf the net for no good reason at all!
