That the world of mobile apps is expanding by the minute is evident from the latest statistics released by Mobilewalla - the mobile marketplace's search and analytics engine - which have revealed that the mobile apps are quite close to the `one million' milestone!

The approaching landmark for the mobile devices is a very significant one, given the fact that barely about three-years-or-so back, most of the mobile users were either not aware of what `apps' actually implied or the apps were not as much a big deal as it they have become of late.

As such, the imminent `one million apps' figure appears notably staggering, even though the Mobilewalla representatives have not disclosed the mechanism that they used for counting the number of mobile apps. In fact, they have not even specified whether the one-million figure represents one million unique apps, or apps in general --- double-counting the apps that have more than one versions.

Nonetheless, going by the Mobilewalla counts, as of December 2, the total number of apps available on the multitude of devices stood at 987,863, with the numbers ever on the increase. Thus, as per all conservative projections, the `one million' mark is clearly round the corner --- more so with the company having revealed that, on an average, 2,000 apps hit several mobile marketplaces ever day!

Commenting on the skyrocketing usage of apps and the looming `one million apps' mark, Mobilewalla's founder and executive chairman Anindya Datta said in a statement: "This is truly an astonishing accomplishment that cannot be ignored."
