The China Internet Network Information Center, a semi-government body that administers China’s domain names, is set to make registration process more rigorous. The move is aimed to strengthen the government’s anti-porn campaign started in August.
Government would also announce reward for such people, who gives credible information regarding porn sites.
Only government-registered business or organization can get domain-name China’s “.cn” suffix. The new rules would make it difficult for individuals to have their own website as the government has proposed to install pre-installed filter software on computers to make the rule more relevant.
The public security minister Meng Jianzhu, in an article appeared in the Communist Party’s magazine Qiushi stated, “The Internet has become an important avenue through which anti-China forces infiltrate, sabotage and magnify their capabilities for destruction. Therefore it represents a new challenge to the public security authority in maintaining national security and social stability.”
Alibaba Groups’ Yahoo China and Google Inc.’s Chinese sites are under scanner for promoting obscene material on sites. Government has already cracked down on a number of sites that offer pornographic material, forcing them to close their shops.
The Chinese State Media report claims, "More than 1.25 million items of online lewd content and nearly 7,000 pornographic websites and columns” had been shut down in an effort to “protect minors’ mental health.”
