New guidelines by IDA, Making it Fairer and Reasonable for Consumers

To make the Telecom Industry more competitive, reasonable and fair, Telecommunication regulators issued some new guidelines which revolve around contract terms and early termination fees for mobile and broadband services.

Competitive plans are also coming ahead for the consumers. Some new guidelines are been taken out by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore which say that the consumers who apply for a new contract or renew the old would only be bound with it for an year. This goes for all users for a fixed line, mobile or broadband service.

The early termination charge is also eliminated totally. And these charges will decrease over time on a month-by-month basis as the contract proceeds.

An extra administrative charge taken by operators for cancellations has also been eliminated.

Industry watchers said the changes are not likely to impact telcos much, as they will just roll back on the freebies.
