Technology giant Microsoft on Thursday announced that its "Games for Windows Live online PC gaming service" will soon be launched and users will be able to make the most of full, LIVE-enabled "digitally-distributed games" through the company's new service called Games on Demand for Windows. The firm until now had offered this service for XBox users, but it will now be available for PC users as well.
The update is due to hit computers on December 15 and is another one of Microsoft's steps toward digital distribution on Windows based computers. The new service will come forward bundled with many games including Capcom's Resident Evil 5, Volition's Red Faction: Guerrilla, and Eidos Hungary's Battlestations: Pacific. Also launching on the new platform are Live enabled versions of World of Goo and Hemisphere Games' Osmos by 2D Boy. Tinker, the formerly exclusive game for Vistas, will be included as a free offering.
"With Games on Demand, we didn't just want to create a cut-and-paste version of existing digital distribution services. We challenged ourselves to deliver an integrated platform that takes full advantage of the unique capabilities offered by the Live service. Our goal has always been to create a seamless online gaming experience for the Windows community, and Games on Demand is a great step toward that end", said Live Engagement Services General Manager Mike Ybarra.
With time, Microsoft is looking to bring all its popular and sought after games to the new platform.
