Don Faul, director of global online operations at Facebook has said that one of the most important things for the social networking giant is to focus on creating balance between providing social experiences and addressing privacy concerns.
He also said that the company is yet to reach the level of privacy for users as there are always areas to improve. He described it as a delicate balance to make it easy to understand and easy to use.
He emphasized the need to build trust to able to convince users to share information about them on the internet. He agreed that the company has to understand what balance is comfortable to the users.
Mr. Faul has credited Google for charting put a new revenues source for the industry. He said that Google Adwords and search marketing has been successful for search and provides opportunities to marketers. When asked if Facebook monetization will be different, he said, the company’s approach is fundamentally different but the principle is the same.
“We want to transform the opportunities for financial businesses to connect with people and leverage the power of social and leverage the medium that we have to allow them to do that in a way that hasn’t been done before,” he said.
He pointed out that about a million and a half businesses have Facebook pages and some of the innovative marketing campaigns have shown that the social medium provided by Facebook is very unique.
