Nokia Ovi has shared, to the disappointment of many eagerly awaiting fans, that the firm will be producing only one phone in the coming year with a Linux platform, dampening the chances of the Finish company's product line-up receiving a complete make -over anytime soon. Also, it has been confirmed that the company has no intention of selling its manufacturing plant.
Marketing Head of Nokia Anssi Vanjoki has said that while the company, which is currently struggling with falling prices of its handsets and increasing competition in the smartphone market, has not ruled out the prospect of a sale eventually; it is not on cards anytime soon.
Nokia's Linux Maemo OS, which has recently been introduced by the company in its high-end N900 device, is being viewed as a key concept in its rivalry with the Apple iPhone. Various experts and analyst had been expecting the world's top ranked manufacturer of mobile phones to roll out more Linux based models for the coming year, something which has, for now, been negated by the firm.
The information that only one Linux phone will be released has also managed to dampen the rumor that Nokia will now completely do away with Symbian phones.
In recent times, Nokia has started investing more in internet phones to compete with the iPhones and BlackBerrys of the smartphone market, and it seems this is the top priority for the company as of now.
