China Unicom soon to release Wi-Fi Enabled iPhone 3GS

china-unicomChina Unicom is planning to release Apple's iPhone 3GS with enabled Wi-Fi capabilities in China.

Sources claim that the firm is planning to launch Wi-Fi functionality to the smartphone in order to pump sales of the device in Chinese market, the WSJ reports.

The present condition is such that the China's Mobile industry is penetrated with 'grey' market Wi-Fi enabled iPhones that have illegally entered in the country.

China Unicom as of now is the only firm that abides by the law and allows to sell the smartphone without Wi-Fi functionality.

Chinese norms claim that smartphones will make use of the country's own Wired Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure (WAPI) wireless standard that currently is being sold across in China.

The Wall Street Journal further adds that Apple is in talks with the carrier to release iPhone 4 and iPad in China.

Chinese tech news site Chinebyte claims that iPad and the iPhone 4 will be released as soon as September.
