Macbook Gets a Make-Over
Macbook

Apple MacBook receives a long awaited make-over to its best selling, entry level variant. Since its launch way back in the 2006, it has been a tremendous success in its segment.

The new laptop is simply called the MacBook, has the most apparent difference is the Unibody enclosure, which eliminates the grey surface atop the frame and gives a continuous and smooth white flow of color, making it similar to the Pro variants. The dimensions are mentioned as 13 inches by 9.1 inches by 1.08 inches, a slight shave over the original and weighs in at 4.7 pounds. This comes with a glass Multi-Touch trackpad with gesture support, giving it a nice feel, although it may take some time getting used to it. The round iSight hole has replaced the earlier rounded square one.

The display remains the same offering 13.3inch 1280x800 resolution, but comes with LED backlighting, similar to the ones with MacBook Pro. You might find a slight taper giving it a more of a MacBook Air feel.

Other changes on the outside are the absence of the IR port, and that means no remote. Also absent is the FireWire port. The other ports present are gigabit Ethernet, MagSafe power, two USB
2.0, and a Kensington lock slot. As before, the side features an 8x slot-loading double-layer SuperDrive.

On the under belly of this white monster there is a conspicuous absence of a battery compartment, since this has the privilege of being the first MacBook with a built in 60Wh Lithium polymer battery, giving it a runtime of 7 hours.

On the innards, lies the same Intel Core 2 Duo processor, upgraded from the 2.13 to the 2.26 GHz. The new model supports the 1066MHz DDR3 RAM in contrast to the 800 MHz DDR2 used before. The 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 wireless networking are still intact. Graphically Nvidia GeForce 9400M provides a 256 MB of shares RAM

The whole bundle will set you back $999 which is a bit expensive, keeping in mind that many Windows 7 models are coming in a cheaper range, but Apple does seem sure of its strategy, so we’ll just wait and watch.
