Singapore Govt., in order to deal with terror attacks on the Internet, has set up an agency.
The Singapore Infocomm Technology Security Authority (SITSA) will be the national expert authority on technology security threats and will commence working on Thursday.
The chief aim behind its creation is to strengthen Singapore's security infrastructure, particularly in light of recent attacks on the websites of governments and major organizations in places like Estonia, the United States and South Korea.
Second Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam, who announced the set-up of SITSA at the opening of a three-day conference on IT security organised by the Home Affairs Ministry said, "The volatile IT landscape of today demands that Singapore adopt a more proactive strategy that places emphasis on anticipating and neutralising emerging threats."
The ministry's Internal Security Department will be imbibed with the duty of looking over STTSA. The Internal Security Department was playing a main role in protecting the security of the government's IT systems. STTSA will be headed by Ng Hoo Ming, who will be its director.
Two new initiatives were explained by Shanmugam, who is embarking on them.
The first one will strengthen the national Infocomm infrastructure, particularly in main sectors like energy, transport, water, banking and finance.
The second one will work on preparing the country for large-scale cyber attacks and the trouble they may cause.
Next year onwards, it will handle the cyber security exercises on a usual basis to recognize gaps and test the country's aptitude to respond and recover from such online attacks.
