China appeals against WTO ruling
World Trade Organization

Recently, a decision of World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's restrictions on the import of US DVDs and other media products was appealed by the country.

The WTO settlement has accused China of breaching international trade rules, as it blocked foreign-owned firms from being importers and wholesalers.

As per the ruling, China was instructed to ease some of its curbs on foreign media products.

It was the U.S., which back in 2007 brought the complaint to the WTO, even though China has tried hard to convince that it operates on a fair system.

No documents, related relating to the grounds for the appeal, were released.

Furthermore, the WTO ruling also blamed China for breaking trade rules, as it prevented US music download firms from providing their services directly to Chinese customers.

The export of US books, magazines and computer games to China by the ruling.

US is irked with China as the its current limitations on the import of official US DVDs and other media products has created a large domestic counterfeit industry.

"The channels for China's import market for published materials, movies and music are completely unimpeded," Beijing said, at the time of the WTO decision.

China's limits on the distribution of US films were upheld by the WTO, which made no ruling on Chinese censorship.
