A research reveals that British kids were splurging twice the amount on treats, sugary products and snacks as compared to the kids in the United States.
Experts claim that these revelations prove that the government’s plan to reduce obesity among the kids wasn’t a success.
The results of the study that were published on Thursday reveals that British kids approximately blew £372 on chocolates and sweets annually, that amount of money could get you around 850 Mars chocolate bars.
The study conducted by Datamoniter, a private Research Company, observed that American kids on an average spent only $150 on such treats annually.
More than one out of three kids between the ages five to thirteen in the U. K. suffer from obesity.
If you thought that was bad, these numbers are predicted to increase by 2.1 percent every year till 2014. These figures make the 1.3 percent increases expected in the U. S. look healthy.
The British kids were also guilty of eating more ready meals, sugary breakfast cereals and ice cream.
In excess of 2.3 million kids in the U. K. are estimated to be obese or overweight and more worryingly kids under the age of 12 show symptoms of diabetes, of high blood pressure, liver diseases and cholesterol.
Jackie Schneider, of the Children's Food Campaign said that the trend related to childhood obesity was an extremely worrying trend.
A ‘Food and Drink Federation’ spokesperson, which represents the manufactures said that reports were false and that government analysis had shown that obesity, had “leveled off”.
He added that “Nobody is being complacent.”
