On the claim of deceiving a patient of S$2,000, a senior staff nurse has been put behind bars today for three months. He was earlier working with the Institute of Mental Health (IMH). This incident dates back to 8 January 2009, when a victim, Mr. Wong Boon Pow was helped by Mong Kok Peng to change his clothes, and Mr. Wong then showed Mong two notes S$1,000.
In a threat of losing the money, Mr. Wong said to Mong that he wanted to keep the money with Mong, instead of rolling in the IMH. Mong had already been detected with a delusional disorder, and he told Mr. Wong to better register it with the IMH. But, Mr. Wong gave the notes to Mong.
Mong had been asked almost four times in a day to enquire if he had registered the money with IMH, to which he replied positively and added that Mr. Wong would get it back at the time of his discharge. But to his surprise, Mong, 34, instead gambled the money away the next day at the Singapore Turf Club.
When the next day, Mr. Wong had to be discharged and the money had to refunded back to him, a call was received by Mong to inquire about the money, and the latter denied of receiving any such money.
Following this, Mr. Wong filed a police report and left Mong then pleaded guilty in front of law. He confessed to his offence in court, in the month of May.
