VoIP provider, Skype, has facilitated free WiFi access at more than 100,000 hotspots worldwide for 20-21 March, including more than 2000 locations throughout Australia.
Free access is available to the users between 10am Australian Eastern Standard Time on 20 March and 9:59 AEST on Monday 22 March, 2010. The access is to mark the full launch of Skype Access, which was introduced as part of Skype's Windows 4.2 version.
The feature facilitates consumers to access WiFi, using Skype credit with a click, allowing people to browse the web, email and make free Skype-to-Skype voice and video via WiFi, without facing any hassle of credit cards and numerous logins.
Throughout this time, users may well access the web for free via a newly launched feature called Skype Access. In Australia, the endorsement involved 2016 Boingo hotspots, including 610 in Sydney, 581 in Melbourne, 328 in Brisbane and 109 in Perth.
Skype Access was available on Skype version 2.8 for Mac or version 4.2 for Windows, and in general permitted users to purchase WiFi access for $0.33 of Skype credit per minute.
