It is reported that a 28-day-old baby girl’s finger was accidentally chopped off by a nurse at Institute of Child Health, Park Circus, on Friday in an incident, while the nurse was attempting to remove a drip channel from the baby’s hand.
A complaint of negligence was lodged with Karaya police station on Friday night against the institute authorities.
However, Maya Mukherjee, head of the institute’s pediatrics department, is the doctor in-charge for baby has confirmed the incident and blamed the nurse for negligence.
“The nurse has tendered an apology. An inquiry would be conducted into the incident”, revealed the doctor.
The newborns parents, Babu Ghosal and Paromita, who live in Nadias Ranaghat, uncovered that the child developed a breathing problem soon after she was born on February 21.
It is reported that the new born was admitted to Institute of Child Health 16 days ago following doctors advice.
A relative, who stayed back at the hospital for the night, was the first to get the news about the accident at 8 am on Friday. However, she said that nobody from the hospital administration made an effort to inform us about the matter.
