A whopping £151.3 million has been announced as bonus to the John Lewis Partnership employees, by the British retail giant. The company's retail sector showed an increase of 9.7%, in its pre-tax profit. The employees of the teams will receive 15% equivalent to their salaries, which is as good as eight weeks of payment.
About 70,000 partners will get this payment according to John Lewis Partnership chairman Charlie Mayfield, "Partners have shown tremendous commitment during changing times. I am therefore delighted that our partners will share fairly in the financial rewards of a successful year."
The Supermarket chain - Waitrose was the star performer of the year, increasing its profit by 26.8%. UK's largest departmental store being John Lewis, increased its profits by 15%.
Waitrose had apparently opened new stores and also plan to expand in turn give nearly 2500 jobs. Mr Mayfield said, "Each week up to 400,000 more people are now choosing to shop at Waitrose." Giving them enough to expand and provide such a high bonus.
The year did make a "profound change" with the expansion and its plans to make it way higher up the market.
