Reporting its earnings for the second quarter, Microsoft said that robust sales of its Office suite of programs and Xbox gaming system helped the company touch a profit figure which was two cents more than the analysts' estimates, even though the figure was `flat' in comparison to the numbers for the previous year.

Thailand in its endeavor to promote tourism and provide better facilities to businessmen is starting a direct flight from Thailand to Guwahati in Assam by 2011.

As a reply to the world-wide speculations rumoring that Carrefour is “offloading” its assets in South Asia for around US$1 billion, the French giant, Carrefour,  said that it is not selling neither of its outlets in Malaysia, Singapore, or in Thailand. This reply came on the heels of the launching of Carrefour’s four hypermarkets in Malaysia, with plans to open another four by the end of this year in Malaysia as well.

American automaker, Ford Motor Co said on Thursday that it is going to invest $40 million in Thailand. The funds will be used for setting up a new manufacturing plant in the region, which is going to become operational from 2012. The products of which are going to be exported to Ford's Asia-pacific destination.

The plant is expected to come up in Rayong and will manufacture Ford Focus. But, said the company, it would also be able to produce other vehicles as well.

While, there were some media reports that the global automobile giant, Toyota Motor Corporation will be shifting its production base out of Thailand for international exports from Indonesia, the company has rather refused any intentions of doing so.

The reports that the Thai Government plans to purchase the Thaicom's satellite business from Singapore's Temasek Holdings again, caught everybody’s attention in short period of time. But, Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, denied commenting on the matter, yesterday.
