Unexpectedly almost all the produced Core i7 980X Gulftown, Intel’s six-core processors have been sold in Europe. Due to a hint of not completely stable economy, Intel had carefully produced limited of this specific processor. However it has not been much time since chips were launched.
Nokia and Intel Launch New Mobile Operating System
Nokia and Intel have joined hands to merge two of their mobile operating systems into Meego, a Linux-based, open operating system for everything from advanced smartphones to netbooks, connected TVs and tablet computers, the companies announced at a joint press conference on Monday.
Intel developed Moblin, and Nokia developed Maemo. The first version of MeeGo is revealed to ship during the second quarter.
Intel, Micron to unveil new 25-nanometer flash memory chips
Intel along with Micron is planning to uncover a bunch of new 25-nanometer flash memory chips via duo’s IM Flash Technologies joint venture on Monday.
The move will allow the companies to get an edge over rivals in NAND flash devices and products.
Intel has confirmed the new chips and said the new chips would be used in solid-state drives, smartphones and portable media devices like iPods.
Commenting on the topic, Intel said, “We are currently sampling it with production expected in the second quarter.”
Intel Officially Launches New Atom Platform for Netbooks
In what is being seen as the first major revision of the company's popular and widely used Atom platform, Intel, on Monday, officially launched the new Pine Trial platform for use in netbooks and other low-priced PCs. The new platform has managed to move both the memory and graphics controllers into the main processor.
As confirmed by the company, the new platform would pull down battery consumption by at least 20% and the chipset is also nearly 60% smaller, thereby reducing the space requirement as well. The chip can, thus, also be used in smaller handheld devices.
Intel Unveils Experimental 48-Core Processors CPU
Intel, the world's giant chipset maker, has unveiled an experimental Central Processing Unit which is powered by as many as 48 processors. The CPU has crammed all 48 processors into a single piece of silicone, the size of a stamp. What is being highly touted, however, is the real low consumption and power management features which the chip promises.
These days, Intel's dual-core processors are the norm, but Tilera has gone a step ahead and produced 36 and 64 core processor chips, and has recently announced that it is almost done with a
Chip Sales Increased by 23 Per Cent with Netbooks
PC microprocessor shipments have seen a record surge as the sales increased in the third quarter by about 23 per cent. The major reason for this increase has reportedly been Atom–based netbooks, especially those that are manufactured and sold in China.
It has been found that although the unit sales had leaped by a whopping 23 per cent, the revenue had only increased by 14 per cent and the reason was pointed to the fact that the selling price of the netbooks had a low average.
