LCD manufacturers settle price-fixing lawsuit for $553 million
In a settlement that Samsung Electronics, Sharp, and five other liquid crystal display (LCD) manufacturers have worked out in a multi-class action lawsuit, approximately $553 million will be paid by the companies to consumers and eight states - Arkansas, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New York, West Virginia, and Wisconsin - that accused the LCD-makers of price fixing.
S'pore manufacturing output up 22% on-year in March
Manufacturing output has been raised to 22 per cent in March. This growth has been seen in the four months. The credit goes to the strong expansion in most sectors with biomedical as the chief cause.
The 13economists had made an estimation of a gain of 23.8 per cent. The manufacturing output was 1.8 percent less than the expected percent.
S'pore manufacturing output rose 10.5% in Jan
On a year-on-year basis, the production output of Singapore has increased 10.5% as of January this year. Except for the biomedical production, which increased by 18.9%.
Month-on-month, seasonally regulated, however, Singapore's production output grew by 15.4% last month this year. Except for the biomedical production, whose output grew by 7.7%.
Positive hope for Singapore Manufacturers on Business Climate
The Economic Development Board (EDB) has done a survey after which it has stated that Singapore manufacturers are confident that the manufacturing business climate will remain affirmative in the first-six months of the current year.
UK manufacturing enhanced by abroad demand
Mounting overseas demand has crafted optimistic conditions for manufacturers in the UK, as per a report.
The Engineering Employers Federation forecasted manufacturing output might enhance by 3.7% this year and by 3.2% in the coming year, 2011.
It also suggested that the firms were crafting jobs although these were largely going to provisional or agency staff.
Manufacturing industry data affecting the global recovery
Europe and China are the manufacturing power houses in the world. But the recent disappointing manufacturing reports from both the regions have created concerns and it has tensed the investors.
Century Suspends One of its Tyre Production Units
At a city suburb, Century Rayon plant in Kalyan, the Diversified Century Textiles & Industries Ltd has planned to partially suspend production of tyre yarn, in stages from May 21. The manufacturing of viscose yarn is expected to drop by about 25% of total installed capacity, so the firm has halted its production, and of the tyre yarn.
