Nokia and Intel Launch New Mobile Operating System
Nokia and Intel have joined hands to merge two of their mobile operating systems into Meego, a Linux-based, open operating system for everything from advanced smartphones to netbooks, connected TVs and tablet computers, the companies announced at a joint press conference on Monday.
Intel developed Moblin, and Nokia developed Maemo. The first version of MeeGo is revealed to ship during the second quarter.
Kirin ends merger talks with Suntory
Japanese beer and soft drink manufacturer Kirin Holdings said on Monday that it had called off merger talks with Suntory Holdings due to differences over governance and a merger ratio.
Kirin was pursuing negotiations with smaller rival Suntory to create a leading industry player in Asia, with sales of more than 400 billion dollars.
HP and Omnifone launch MusicStation for unlimited music
The World's biggest computer manufacturer, Hewlett-Packard (HP) has entered into an agreement with Omnifone to offer digital music content on some new models of HP sold in Europe.
The companies will launch MusicStation providing users access to 6.5 million tracks from record companies like Universal, Sony, EMI and Warner and also independent labels.
Liberty Global to Enter Deal with J:COM Stake To KDDI For $4 Bln in Cash
International cable company Liberty Global Inc. on Monday revealed that it reached a deal to sell its stake in a Japanese telecommunications-services provider that hold its 37.8% ownership interest in Jupiter Telecommunications Co., Ltd. for $4 billion in cash.
The transaction will help the company concentrate on consolidation of the European cable-TV industry.
Deloitte acquires Drivers Jonas
Accountancy firm Deloitte has announced today that it has acquired Britain's oldest property advice firm Drivers Jonas. The deal strengthens Deloitte's presence in the property agency market.
Drivers Jonas is a 285-year-old property advisory firm and is known for its public sector works. Drivers Jonas' more than 650 partners and employees will join the new combined entity which will have revenue of more than £110m.
Friendster, Yahoo Sign A Cross-Promotion Deal
Friendster and Yahoo Southeast Asia have undergone a deal involving cross-promotion, facilitating a customized application to users across the region, Friendster revealed on Tuesday.
In addition, it involves display of Yahoo advertisement on Friendster's Web site, and in return Yahoo will permit Friendster profiles and fan pages to be listed and featured within its results. Also, users can link their Friendster and Yahoo accounts, and a Friendster application will be made available for Yahoo's Southeast Asia homepage.
Bharti given a go ahead by Bangladesh for Warid takeover
Bharti Airtel's investment of US$300m in Abu Dhabi Group's Warid Telecom, has been approved by the telecom authority of Bangladesh.
Mentioning that the investment should be spent on the network expansion, a senior official of the telecom regulator said, "We've asked Warid to submit schedule of the Bharti's US$300mil initial investment plan within 30 days."
Warid the sixth mobile operator has invested US$600m, since 2007, after its launch of operations and its subscribers by November 2009 were 2.92 million subscribers.
