GameStop: Wii U software pre-orders surpass 1.2 million units
With Nintendo's new Wii U console set to hit the US markets this coming Sunday, GameStop has recently revealed that its software pre-orders for Wii U have surpassed a rather enviable `1.2 million units' figure.
According to GameStop, which will get in 500,000 Wii U units for launch, the number of software pre-orders received for the Wii U is nearly two-fold more than those which the company had received for the Wii software before it was released.

Gartner figures show Nokia tumbled from third to seventh spot in Q3 smartphone sales

Apple, HTC work out settlement deal to end their patent dispute
In a move which marks the culmination of an over two-year-old Apple-HTC patent dispute - which began when Apple accused HTC of inappropriately copying the iPhone -, the two companies said in a late Saturday announcement that they have mutually consented to dismiss the series of lawsuits they have filed against each other.
According to the announcement by Apple and HTC, the settlement worked out by the two companies includes a licensing deal which, over the next ten years, will grant both parties the rights to each other's present and future patents.
Ministers Concerned About Congestion on Routes, May Increase the Speed Limit for Lorries
The Department for Transport has yesterday launched a consultation for vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes that will be applicable to roads in England and Wales.
The Ministers are planning to increase the speed limit for lorries to 50 mph. The lorries currently run at a speed of 40 mph on single carriage ways.
The move is being considered in lieu of high traffic jams on routes such as A9. Increase in accidents due to traffic has also raised concerns. The changes are expected to cut the accidents by 18% and queues will be lowered down to the size of six from the existing 18.
24 doctors certify patients for Arizona’s pot program
About 75 per cent of the marijuana cards issued in the state have been given a go ahead by a small number of doctors in Arizona, according to health officials, and this raises questions about whether the program is being abused.
The Arizona’s medical marijuana program started in April 2011 to June this year and about 24 doctors had certified 75 per cent of cardholders. This means that in that period, 475 doctors certified nearly 29,000 patients.

Toyota announces sprawling recall of 7.43 million vehicles
On Wednesday, top-notch Japanese automaker Toyota Motors announced the recall of 7.43 million vehicles, because of a faulty power-window switch which can lead to it overheating and even melting in extreme cases.

Mists of Pandaria’s digital sales surpassed retail sales by nearly 4:1
According to the figures shared recently by Activision Blizzard, the first week sales of World of Warcraft (WoW)'s latest expansion - Mists of Pandaria - touched nearly 2.7 million copies; with the digital sales of the MMO game surpassing the retail sales.
With figures revealing that Mists of Pandaria's digital copies outsold the physical copies by around 4:1, the 2.7 million copies sold of the newest WoW expansion in its first week comprehensively beat the earlier estimates of investment bank Lazard Capital Markets.
Microsoft releases preview of TypeScript
In a move which underscores software giant Microsoft's latest attempts at developing proprietary programming languages, the company has recently released a preview of TypeScript, which is essentially a superset language of JavaScript for web development.
The preview of TypeScript by Microsoft has been launched under the Open Web Foundation's 1.0 specification agreement; though the compiler will be rolled out under the Apache 2.0 license on Microsoft's free open source project-hosting site CodePlex.
Nissan offering cheap leases and big discounts on Leaf
With its all-electric Leaf witnessing slow sales, Nissan has been - since the beginning of September - offering big discounts as well as affordable lease options to the customers interested in purchasing the car.
While the actual cost of the Leaf begins at $36,050 - inclusive of shipping charges -, Nissan is now offering the car at a $2,999 down for 32 months and $219 per month lease; thereby marking a $30 reduction from the $249 per month lease deal which was being offered by the automaker earlier this year.
Motorola blocked from enforcing German sales ban against Microsoft Xbox
Upholding an earlier order by a Seattle judge, in the Microsoft-Motorola patent dispute, a three-judge panel in San Francisco recently ruled that Motorola Mobility - which is owned by Google - is not in a position to enforce a German court's injunction order against Microsoft.
According to a Bloomberg report, Motorola lost appeal in the Microsoft Xbox case when the federal appeals panel in San Francisco said that the Seattle court order was appropriately tailored; and thus blocked Motorola's enforcement of the sales ban against Microsoft.
